Well, the way the monetizing system works on YT is that people are shown ads on videos *randomly* at different spots in the video. If one clicks on that add or watches it for a specific set of time, YT gives a little bit of money to the creator for compensation Hence, more views = more ads shown = $$$.

Many YT'ers do YT for their full-time jobs, so some "fake" the acts in their videos to create interesting content and earn $$$.
