Recently Mojang posted the new 1.8 pre-release on their blog! https://mojang.com/2014/08/minecraft-1-8-pre-release-the-bountiful-update/

In the pre-release they added a new default skin!

HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE PRE-RELEASE:
Open up the Minecraft launcher and select "New Profile" Check the box that says, "Enable experimental development versions ("snapshots") You should get a pop-up saying these builds are not stable and may corrupt your world, (if you're ok with this then, "Yes") Where it says "Use version" open the drop-down menu and scroll to the top of the list where it says "snapshot 1.8-pre1" Once you have selected that, press save profile and you should be able to play! (I'd recommend creating a new world to try out the update)
Keep in mind this is only a PRE-RELEASE so there are bugs in the game.
